Radio Message for Constitution Day
The Hon. Kurt Tibbetts, JP
Leader of Opposition
6 July 2009
It is truly an honour to take part in today’s celebration of Constitution Day - the birth date of the Cayman Islands Constitution.
To many of us, celebrating Constitution Day is just another public holiday. Perhaps, this year, along with the years to come, things can be a little bit different. And as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our nation’s founding document, let’s take the time to pay homage to our forefathers for their early commitment to democracy, which now, half a century later – has given us a brand new Constitution that underscores our growth as a nation.
So, as we say goodbye to the old, and welcome the new, it is good to remember that our constitution is a living, breathing document that expresses the essence of what it means to be Caymanian.
