I congratulate the people of the Cayman Islands on celebrating the 50th anniversary of your first written Constitution.

I also wish you well with the implementation of your new Constitution – it builds on your proud history of democracy and reflects the strength and independence of your nation.

It is surely a major milestone in the development of your constitutional history, and will no doubt strengthen the principles of good governance.

Today’s Constitution Day today is indeed special and I hope you all take the time to reflect on your past and appreciate how far you have come.
