  • Negotiations between the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom for modernization of the Cayman Islands Constitution

The Constitutional Talks between the Cayman delegates and UKís Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) were held over a period of approximately 5 months starting from 29 September Ė 5 February 2009. During the negotiation meetings, the Cayman delegates announced their opening statements and discussed the various items highlighted in their Position Papers.

As a result of these meetings, a final draft Constitution was published and efforts were made to conduct public education on the various aspects of the Constitution from a lay personís perspective. Upon completion, the public was asked to vote on the final draft Constitution during the Referendum in May 2009.
